Every brand has a story to tell and every brand has logic behind their names even. Brands like Google, Amazon, Adobe, Nike etc. are all having some great and interesting logic behind their names. Obviously it doesn’t bother for a customer at all even if they change their brands name till the time they are providing us great product/service.
You would be mesmerized to know that this is how famous brands got their names – Strategy or Coincidence?
We as a customer has no personal benefit knowing about logic behind brand’s names. We are happy if they are serving us better. A customer needs a best product within their budget. And if any brand is doing so, we are LOYAL.
But sometimes, it turns out very interesting to know that how these famous brands got their names. How they put their idea into place? Is that a strategy or coincidence? These are some general knowledge which might feel you superior in your friend’s zone. (Don’t Show off much because who knows your friend might have already read this article :P)
Even if their names are set strategically, we should be proud of them that they reach up to the mark and turns their idea into success. And if their names are set coincidentally, even then we should be proud that they have worked so hard to prove their coincidence into success.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin found Google but initially they set brand name as Googol. later on they changed it to Google which mean 1 followed by 100 Zeros. They wanted to be followed by whole world.
Coca-cola is a widely accepted beverage ( Soft Drink) all over the world. But we never thought that coca and cola are two separately used terms and they have different meanings altogether. Coca derived from leaves and cola from berries.
Pepsi also has a different logic behind its name. Pepsi comes from “pepsin”. It is our digestive enzyme. Although there is no ingredient called pepsin in it.
Owner of Adidas is Adolf Dassler. Its name set behind his name. Adolf’s nick name was Adi. So, Adi mix with Das (his surname i.e. dassler) This is how ADIDAS becomes ADIDAS.
NIKE is well known by it s swoosh. But we doesn’t even bother to check that what does it mean? First of all, NIKE comes from the Greek word which means Goddess of Victory. This Swoosh is the sign of her victory.
Amazon’s CEO is Jeff Bezos and he wanted to make his company the longest, the strongest. Also, he was looking for some name starting with letter “A”. So, he clicks one day that Amazon is the longest river of the world and thus he set his brand name as AMAZON.
Volkswagen was a revolution on German roads. There was a time when only and only expensive cars were being used on German roads but Volkswagen came as a revolution. It means “people’s car”
8. HP ( Hewlett Packard )
Two owners are William Hewlett and David Packard. They flipped a coin to see whose name comes first. William won and that is why they set their brand name as Hewlett Packard
Microsoft was very well aware of their company and their products. Its all about computers and software. Thus, they just cut the name and become MICROSOFT. Micro comes from Microcomputers and Soft comes from Software.
Durex comes from three words which signifies their product’s USP. Durable, Reliable and Excellence are the three words which completes DUREX as a brand name.
